A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Bihar's Araria district after he allegedly called up the police while posing as an aide of the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and threatened to "blow up" the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22 (Monday).
The accused, Intekhab Alam, was arrested from his home at Balua Kaliyaganj late on Saturday and seemed to be mentally unstable, Araria Superintendent of Police (SP) Ashok Kumar Singh told news agency PTI.
On January 19, Alam called up the police by dialling 112, the emergency helpline number for citizens, and claimed his name was Chhota Shakeel, an aide of Dawood Ibrahim, the SP said.
"Alam said over the phone that he would blow up the Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22. He does not have a criminal record, but seems to be mentally unstable," he said.
Given the sensitivity of the issue, a case was registered in the matter and the police have seized the man's phone, PTI reported.
"As soon as the call was received, details were shared with the cyber cell. The mobile number from which he had made the call was found to be registered in the name of his father," Singh said.
The mega 'Pran Pratishtha' (consecration) ceremony of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya will be held on January 22. Over 7,000 people, including politicians, renowned businessmen and industrialists, celebrities and sportspersons are expected to attend the event.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be present for the 'Pran Pratishtha' event and perform the rituals at the Ram Temple, which will be opened to the public the following day.
