A man allegedly killed his friend and later buried the body at the backyard of his own residence in Punjab's Bhatinda, officials said on Friday. The incident came to light days later when the smell of the dead body started spreading throughout the house, prompting the police to be informed.
Police sources told India Today that a young man, identified as Harshdeep, had gone missing since January 17, and a missing person complaint had been filed.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Harshdeep's friend, Gurpinder alias Goldie, was the main accused. Goldie, along with his accomplice Baljeet Singh, orchestrated the entire gruesome act. Both Goldie and Baljeet are between the ages of 22 and 23, sources said.
Both the accused first killed Harshdeep by covering his mouth and then buried him in a pit measuring 8 to 10 feet, which had been pre-dug at Gurpinder's house.
Police investigation also revealed that there was an old dispute between Harshdeep and Gurpinder which led to the murder.
Both the accused have been arrested and further investigation into the matter is underway.
