Man killed, teen in critical condition after being hit by cars on Long Island: police

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man was killed and a teenager fighting for his life after being struck by cars in unrelated New Cassel crashes Sunday evening, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

A 44-year-old man was struck by a pick-up truck on Old Country Road near Arlington Street at about 6:20 p.m. Sunday, according to police. He was rushed to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead about an hour later, police said.

The young truck driver stayed at the scene but police had not made any arrests, according to the department. 

Just over a mile away, a 17-year-old was crossing Prospect Avenue near Kinkel Street at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by a car, according to police. 

The teenager was airlifted to an area hospital in critical condition with head and chest injuries, police said. 

The driver in the Prospect Avenue crash also stayed on the scene but police did not report any arrests.
