MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- The man accused of stabbing a tourist in the chest in Times Square on May 11 was indicted on multiple charges, District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced on Monday.
The alleged attack happened at around 6:10 p.m. outside of a bodega, prosecutors said.
The defendant, 61-year-old Cyril Destin, was sitting on his walker when he took out a large kitchen knife and allegedly stabbed a woman who was walking by, officials said.
The victim was treated at the Bellevue Hospital.
"When tourists visit New York, they deserve to enjoy our city without fearing for their safety. Cyril Destin jeopardized that by allegedly stabbing a woman who was visiting with her daughter and her daughter’s friend for a school trip,” said District Attorney Bragg. “I hope the victim continues to heal from this unprovoked attack.”
Destin was indicted on attempted assault, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon charges, prosecutors said.
The NYPD told PIX11 News that Destin had been arrested at least 14 times before the stabbing.
