QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) --- A man was struck with a metal object in an unprovoked attack in a Queens subway station Tuesday afternoon, according to police and the MTA.
The victim, 34, was heading out of the station when he was assaulted at the M, R lines at the Grand Avenue-Newtown stop just before 1 p.m., according to the NYPD. The suspect was threatening subway riders in the station before he struck the victim, according to the MTA.
The suspect, believed to be in his 30s, ran out of the subway station after the incident, police said. There have been no arrests.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The incident is the latest in a string of violence in the city's subways, including a 64-year-old Queens man who was kicked onto the tracks at Penn Station on Sunday.
Last week, an MTA conductor, Alton Scott, was also slashed in the neck while working on the C line on Rockaway Avenue in Brooklyn. Dr. Patrick McRory, who was on the train, saved Scott’s life.
Crime on the subways is up 13%, according to data from the NYPD.
