Man gets 10 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting minor girl in Puducherry

PUDUCHERRY: A fast-track court handling cases booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (

Pocso

) Act, 2012, sentenced a 27-year-old man to 10 years of

rigorous imprisonment

for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in

Puducherry

in 2018.
Judge V Sofana Devi also sentenced the man, identified as S Raj alias Ramana of

Ariyankuppam

, to undergo three years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping the minor girl and another two years of rigorous imprisonment for wrongfully confining her.

All the terms will run concurrently.
The judge directed the government to pay a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the minor survivor.
Special public prosecutor S Patcheappan said Ramana lured the minor girl and kidnapped her to his friend's house in an isolated location in Villianur. He confined her in the house wrongfully for more than three days and committed aggravated penetrative sexual assaults on her before abandoning her.

The girl complained to Ariyankuppam police, who booked Ramana under Section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Pocso Act and sections 363 (punishment for kidnapping) and 343 (wrongful confinement for three or more days) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him.
Ramana was involved in many criminal cases including a murder.
