WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (PIX11) --- A man is accused of killing his mother after pushing her down an embankment during a fight in a Manhattan park on Sunday, authorities said.
Miguel Duval, 22, allegedly shoved his 44-year-old mother, Vianel Garcia, while they argued in Riverside Park near West 165th Street and Riverside Drive in Washington Heights at around 4:15 p.m., police said. Witnesses told officers they saw Duval push the woman down the grass embankment.
Garcia was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries before she was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.
Duval was apprehended in the park hours later and charged with murder, police said.
The son was previously arrested in June for allegedly assaulting a man in a Manhattan shelter where he lives. Cops said Duval repeatedly kicked a 41-year-old man in the head.
He pleaded not guilty in the assault case and was released without bail, according to court records.
Duval's arraignment in the murder case was pending Monday.
