Man dead, another injured in separate Crown Heights shootings: NYPD

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (PIX11) – Crown Heights residents are calling for change after police say two men were shot in the neighborhood on Sunday.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the leg just before midnight near the Kingsborough Houses, according to the NYPD. A suspect is still at large, police said.

Lavel Frazier, 40, was shot and killed on Sterling Place Sunday morning, according to authorities.

A funeral and wake will be held for Nazim Berry, the beloved deli worker who lost his life after police said he got into an argument with a gunman over a cigar. Berry's death was followed by the fatal shooting of a teenager, 13-year-old Troy Gill.

Man accused of pushing girlfriend on subway tracks arrested: NYPD

Gill was shot and killed on his way home from a basketball game near Bergen and New York avenues on Feb. 29, according to authorities. He was not the intended target, police said.

Just a day earlier, a 33-year-old man was killed after being shot in the head on McKeever Place.

Assemblymember Brian Cunningham is pushing to pass a bill that would create stable funding for hospital and community-based violence interruption programs.

The Community Violence Intervention and Prevention Act would work alongside gun violence intervention organizations like Neighbors in Action.
