Man chops off acquaintance’s ear for trying to resolve quarrel

intervene

and resolve a

quarrel

his acquaintance engaged in cost him dear as the latter sliced off his left

ear

in Vattiyoorkavu in Kerala’s

Thiruvananthapuram

on Thursday.
The victim, Rahul Raj, also sustained fractures on his fingers. His ear was later rejoined at medical college hospital in the evening.
Vattiyoorkavu police

arrested

Vivek

, 37, and produced him before a court on charges under Sections 308 (attempting to commit culpable homicide), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon), 294-b (abuse) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC.
Police said Rahul, after hearing some commotion, reached Vivek’s house where Vivek and his friend Shabu were engaged in an argument with two men over a loan. Rahul tried to resolve the conflict but Vivek objected to it and attacked him with a machete.

According to police, Shabu restrained Rahul from behind while Vivek chopped off his ear using the machete. Shabu is absconding after the incident and

police

have intensified search for him.
Meanwhile, Vivek has also filed a complaint against Rahul and two others for trespassing into his house.
