Man beaten for trying to steal goats in Namakkal dies, 4 held

NAMAKKAL: Four of a family were

arrested

near Pallipalayam in

Namakkal

on Sunday after one of the two thieves they assaulted died on Saturday. They had beaten up two brothers who tried to

steal goats

from their house early Friday.
The deceased has been identified as A Rajkumar, 32. Those arrested are Nagaraj, 58, his son Vigneshwaran, 24, and two other family members Kumaresan, 45, and Kandasamy, 41.
Police said Rajkumar and his brother A Karthik, 30, had a drink around 12.30am on Friday, After a while, they tried to steal two goats from Nagaraj's house.

Four family members, including Nagaraj, confronted the thieves and assaulted them. "They assaulted them with iron and wooden logs," police said. The two were admitted to the govt hospital in Pallipalayam. They were later transferred to the govt hospital in Erode. Rajkumar died of head injuries on Saturday.
Police had registered a case under section 324 of IPC (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon or means). It was altered to section 302 of IPC (murder) following Rajkumar's death. The body was handed over to his family after a postmortem. All four accused were remanded in judicial custody and lodged at the Salem central prison on Sunday.tnn
