Man attempts to burn American/Israeli flag across from Jewish high school: NYPD

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan (PIX11) – Police are searching for a man accused of trying to burn an American/Israeli flag in Manhattan on Feb. 24, according to the NYPD.

The incident happened around 2:50 p.m. in front of 2547 Amsterdam Ave. in Washington Heights, which is across the street from the Yeshiva University High School for Boys. Police said the man attempted to set fire to the flag before fleeing the scene in a black sedan.

Two employees of the high school were seen on video approaching the suspect, sources told PIX11 News.

Police describe the man as being between 18 to 25 years old and 5'6". He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and white sneakers.

The incident is being investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force, according to authorities.
