THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – A man who was arrested in a large-scale ICE raid in New York City on Tuesday was wanted for burglary in Colorado, according to the Aurora Police Department.
Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, 25, was suspected to be part of a group that threatened residents of two Colorado apartments with guns, Aurora police said. He was facing charges of first-degree burglary and menacing with a firearm in Colorado.
Aurora PD Public Information Officer Joe Moylan said Zambrano-Pacheco was arrested as part of an immigration enforcement operation in the Bronx. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem oversaw the raid, which was conducted by multiple agencies including ICE, the NYPD and the DEA.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams' office released a statement about the raid, saying in part, "Beforehand, I directed the NYPD to coordinate with DHS’ Homeland Security Investigations and other federal law enforcement agencies — as allowed by law — to conduct a targeted operation to arrest an individual connected with multiple violent crimes, both here in New York and in Aurora, Colorado, including burglary, kidnapping, extortion, firearms possession, menacing with a firearm, crime of violence, and other charges."
His office did not confirm the identity of the person who was detained.
An ICE spokesperson told PIX11 News in a statement, “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, along with federal partners including the FBI, ATF, DEA, CBP and the U.S. Marshals Service, began conducting enhanced targeted operations today in New York to enforce U.S. immigration law and preserve public safety and national security by keeping potentially dangerous criminal aliens out of our communities.”
It's not clear if Zambrano-Pacheco will be sent back to Colorado to face charges or be deported, Moylan told PIX11 News.
