Man arrested after NYPD officer run over during Harlem traffic stop: police

HARLEM, Manhattan (PIX11) – A man was arrested after an NYPD officer was run over during a traffic stop in Harlem back in January, according to police.

Francis Cardona, 21, was charged with assault, leaving the scene of an accident, vehicular assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle, fleeing officers in a motor vehicle and criminal possession of stolen property, according to authorities.

Officers stopped a Toyota Highlander near Harlem River Drive and West 159th Street around 6 p.m. on Jan. 23, police said. The car took off, running over one of the officers, according to authorities.

The officer was taken to the hospital for neck and back pain, police said.
