Man accused of trapping black cat, abandoning it at LI ShopRite: police

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. (PIX11) -- An Islip man was arrested on Friday for allegedly trapping a black cat and ditching it at a Long Island supermarket, authorities said.

Michael Vitucci, Jr., 67, allegedly trapped the cat near his trailer park home on Main Street on Feb. 9, authorities report. Vitucci Jr. allegedly ditched the cat inside a ShopRite Supermarket in Bayshore, authorities said.

Detectives charged Vitucci Jr. with abandonment, which is a misdemeanor, officials said. He is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip, on March 7, 2024.

Detectives are also searching for another black cat that was also reported missing from 150 Main Street, in connection with this case. The cat owner continues to search for his beloved cat named Clyde, authorities said.
