FATEHGARH SAHIB: A man accused of committing a
robbery
at a
factory
in Mandi Gobindgarh town of
Fatehgarh Sahib
was
injured
in a
police encounter
late Friday night in
Bassi Pathana
town. The police purportedly opened fire in retaliation at the spot of the incident where they had taken the accused.
The police on Saturday claimed that a cop sustained injury in the incident but remained out of danger, while the accused, with a bullet injury in the leg, had to be admitted to a hospital.
The police seized Rs 19 lakh, a pistol Desi 315 bore along with cartridges, a Bolero jeep and an Alto car of the accused who have been identified as Vishal Markan, Gorav Dhiman alias Jimmy, Jaswant Singh alias Jassa and Tushar. All the men are from Bassi Pathana.
The case has been registered against them under IPC sections including, attempt to murder and sections of Arms Act at Bassi Pathana police station.
The police revealed that on Friday noon they got information about the robbery involving Rs 20 to 22 lakh
cash
from a factory by some unidentified accused, who had also assaulted the security guard in Mandi Gobindgarh. The robbery occurred in the absence of factory owners.
Senior Superintendent of Police Fatehgarh Sahib, Ravjot Grewal, formed separate teams and initiated a probe besides cordoning off the main areas to prevent the accused from moving out of the district.
The police claimed that in order to trace and recover the looted amount, the police team on Friday night visited a factory along with accused Jaswant Jassa where the cash was kept inside a Bolero jeep but the accused Jaswant managed to take out .315 bore weapon hidden beneath cash bag while making the money recovered and then opened fire towards a cop who escaped bullet but was mildly injured and was out of danger.
"Till Friday late evening we managed to nab three of the four accused including accused Vishal who was employed in the factory as an accountant and provided the information to his accomplices about the cash. The fourth accused identified as Tushar was arrested on Saturday after interrogation of other accused. An Alto car was used during the robbery. We are investigating the links of the accused with the factory in Bassi Pathana where they parked a Bolero jeep and kept cash inside it. All accused are between 20s’ to late 30’s and did not have any criminal case registered before this crime," said SP (D)
