Man accused of pushing girlfriend onto subway tracks is on parole

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- A violent ex-convict is now accused of not one but two attempted murders while on parole.

"They cannot let this guy out," Jenny Aquino said.

Aquino, 43, and her daughter, Bella, 10, are still traumatized from what Valdez did to them and are terrified, knowing their attacker is again accused of attempted murder.

Christian Valdez was convicted of stabbing the mother and daughter on their Bronx fire escape in 2017. He served two years in state prison after pleading guilty to assault.

"I just remember what happened," Bella said, showing the 3-inch scar across her left elbow.

The sixth-grader was only four at the time, but the ordeal left her with mental and physical scars.

Over the weekend, the girl and her mother saw Valdez on the news.

The 30-year-old allegedly threw a romantic partner onto subway tracks at Fulton Street as a train pulled in. Both of the victim's legs are now amputated.

"Do not let him come out because he's going to keep doing it," Jenny begged.

Valdez allegedly did this while on parole for stabbing the Aquinos. He reportedly cut off his ankle monitor prior.

Not to mention, Valdez is accused of trying to murder an ex-girlfriend last December in the Bronx, just days after being released from prison.

"After violating parole once and twice, the chances of him remaining out now are slim," said Hon Barry Kamins (Ret.) who was the former NYC Administrative Judge. Kamins is now a defense attorney at Aidala Bertuna & Kamins PC law firm in New York City.

Questions remain as to why Valdez was on the street and not in jail. According to Kamins, those on the bench have discretion. But he admits this is eye-raising.

"It's very unusual. I'm surprised that he's out," Kamins said, "He had to go before a judge and bail had to be set. If he was out on the subway, they just released him on the prior case."

Something that keeps former victims up at night.

"If he comes out, he'll do it again," warned the worried mother.

PIX11 News reached out to New York State Courts about the decision to release Valdez from Rikers after the alleged December 2023 stabbing and has not yet heard back.

Valdez is currently remanded, while his ex-partner continues to receive treatment at Bellevue Hospital in Midtown. His attorneys from the legal aid society had no comment.
