CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (PIX11) --- A man is accused of fatally shooting a Brooklyn bodega worker in the head during a fight over a cigar last week, police said Wednesday.
Daquan David, 29, was arrested and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon for allegedly killing Nazim Berry, 37, on Feb. 26. according to the NYPD. David allegedly shot Berry in the head at Franklin Avenue and Lincoln Place in Crown Heights at around 4:15 p.m., according to the NYPD.
Berry refused to buy the suspect a Black & Mild cigar before a fight broke out, police said. Police said David allegedly left the store and came back with a gun before shooting the victim in the street.
“The guy asked him to buy him a Black & Mild and [Berry] said ‘no’ and they started to argue,” said Danette Hollie, Berry’s grieving mother. “I knew it was senseless. I knew that it had to be over something stupid because I know his heart.”
The store had working surveillance cameras and captured the incident, according to authorities.
“Nazim is proud when he’s over here on the corner to work, and love everybody, and help who he could help,” a resident in the area said.
David's arraignment was pending Wednesday, according to court records.
