COOCH BEHAR
: Chief minister
Mamata Banerjee
will go on a dharna from Friday if the Modi government does not clear Bengal's
NREGA
dues by Thursday. Banerjee indicated on Monday that she might sign files and do administrative work from the dharna site near the
Ambedkar
statue in Esplanade.
"I will wait till Feb 1. Return our rightful dues. People will not get paid for their work, they will not get their homes and you will stay in your palaces: this cannot go on," she said at a Cooch Behar rally. She later told reporters that would lead the dharna from Friday. The
Trinamool
will also launch a stir at the booth-level across the state.
The Bengal government wants the Modi government to to clear the NREGA dues now pending for two years as well as the PM Awas
Yojana
(housing scheme) and PM Gram Sadak Yojana (rural road scheme) funds. "Why are they not releasing funds for the 11 lakh rural houses under the PMAY that they themselves have already cleared?" Banerjee asked.
