In response to the prevailing cold wave conditions in Madhya Pradesh, the school education department has issued directives to revise school schedules across the state. The decision, aimed at prioritising students' well-being, will be in effect until January 20.
All government and private schools, typically operating in the morning shift, will now commence classes from 10:00 am.
This adjustment is intended to mitigate the impact of severe cold conditions on students traveling to schools in the early morning hours.
SHIFT-BASED SCHOOLS FOLLOW SUIT
Schools with dual shifts will also align their schedules with the revised timings, starting classes at 10:00 am. However, government schools previously commencing at 10:30 am will continue following their regular timetable.
It's important to note that examinations for Classes 6 to 12 will proceed according to the scheduled timetable.

WIDESPREAD COLDWAVE IMPACT
The decision to alter school timings comes in the wake of a severe cold wave affecting several states in North India.
Uttar Pradesh has extended winter vacations, instructing schools to remain closed until January 14, 2024. The cold wave, coupled with dry weather and decreasing temperatures, has resulted in thick fog and rain in various regions.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for 'Cold Day' to 'Severe Cold Day' conditions in specific areas. Weather experts predict consistent temperatures in the northern regions from January 8 to 13, with no significant changes or warnings of an impending cold wave.
According to IMD forecasts, dense fog is expected to persist in the mornings across several states, including Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, and parts of Bihar until January 10.
