PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers brought Lonnie Walker IV back to the NBA when they signed him from overseas at the deadline in February. He averaged 12.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while shooting 42% from the floor and 35.4% from deep in 20 games for the Sixers with seven starts.
Walker, a native of Reading, PA, was able to step in and produce right away. Having played in the league previously with the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Lakers, and Brooklyn Nets, he wants to remain with the Sixers as he has a team option for the 2025-26 season.
As the offseason is set to begin, Walker expressed a desire to return to the Sixers.
"I mean, you have terrific players," Walker explained. "Paul George, Joel (Embiid), Tyrese (Maxey), Kelly Oubre, you have great players who, you know, that this is a playoff team, and that's what it's all about, trying to get a championship, and I mean, nothing like being close to home, and representing the home team and being part of not just Philadelphia, but Pennsylvania as a whole."
Walker grew up watching this team and explained the honor of throwing on a Sixers jersey from Reading.
"I grew up watching the Sixers, so it's a very surreal moment in my life, as far as just putting that jersey on every single day," he added. "Just being appreciative of that because I can only tell you how many times when I was younger, I was like, I can't wait till I put on a Philly jersey or something like that. So, you know, all in God's favor. Wherever He intends to put me, but definitely would love to be back."
The Sixers will have decisions to make as they continue throughout the offseason. They will be looking to become a younger, more dynamic team around the Big 3 so Walker could factor into their plans for the future.
