NEW YORK (PIX11) – A Long Island man has been accused of abusing his 5-week-old son, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
The baby boy was brought to Stony Brook University Hospital by ambulance on Sunday. The baby’s injuries were consistent with signs of abuse, officials said.
Police did not describe the baby's injuries but said on Monday that the infant was still hospitalized in critical condition.
An investigation by the Suffolk County Special Victims Unit led to the arrest of the boy’s father, police said.
Vincent DiStasi, 31, was charged with assault in the first degree. DiStasi was also charged with reckless assault and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
