Shakeel was unbeaten on 57 at the end, while Ayub struck 56 for his first fifty during an innings-building partnership of 98 for the fourth wicket after Pakistan were 16/3.

Shakeel scored 1,000 runs in his 11th Test, reaching 33 and hitting five boundaries in his seventh half-century. He scored 44 for the fifth wicket with Mohammad Rizwan, who remained unbeaten on 24.
