Both Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill struck their second hundred of the series to fetch India a handy first innings lead on day two of the fifth and final test against England on Friday.

Each of India's top five batters, including debutant Devdutt Padikkal, managed 50-plus scores to power the hosts to a commanding 473-8 for a lead of 255.

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the third day's play of the fifth Test between India and England in Dharamsala.

However, England, despite facing an uphill battle, will be eager to stage a comeback and claw their way back into contention. With the experience of Ben Stokes leading the charge, the visitors will seek to make inroads into the Indian batting lineup and restrict their lead to a manageable margin. Shoaib Bashir is the pick of the bowlers for England as he picked up 4 wickets yesterday and will be eyeing his second Five Wicket Haul in this series. The morning session promises to be a riveting affair, with India's tailenders Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav resuming their partnership, intent on adding valuable runs to India's total. As the battle between bat and ball unfolds under the azure skies, the outcome of the match looks to be going India's way at the moment. Can England turn things around? Let's find out as we are moments away from the start of Day 3 of this Test Match.

On Day 2, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill mesmerized the crowd with their scintillating centuries, propelling India to a commanding position with a substantial first-innings lead. Buoyed by their stellar performances, India's top order showcased their prowess with the bat, leaving the visitors reeling and firmly in control of the match. The debutant Devdutt Padikkal, along with Sarfaraz Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal crossed the 50-run mark each and batted really well against the English bowlers. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah are the not-out batters for India when they walk out to bat today. India already sits on a lead of 255 runs and making a comeback in this game is getting tougher and tougher for England. The more this batting pair plays for India, the more frustrating it is going to get for the English players.

As the sun peeks over the horizon, casting a golden glow upon the verdant expanse of the cricketing arena, anticipation mounts for another exhilarating day of Test cricket at Dharamshala. With memories of Day 2 still fresh in the minds of players and spectators alike, the stage is set for a day of enthralling cricketing action as India prepares to resume their innings at 473/8 standing on a first-innings lead of 255 runs against England in the fifth and final Test Match.

... DAY 3, FIRST SESSION ...

Right then, India have a big lead of 255 runs and aren't quite done yet and will look to take it beyond 300 runs. Yet again, Ben Stokes needs to channelize every ounce of positive radiation within the camp to show the same gut which they showed in the first Test, but with every passing game, the task keeps getting tougher and tougher as it does seem as if the first Test never happened. Nevertheless, first job, England need to get those remaining two wickets as quickly as possible and then, try and bat, bat and bat. A lot of questions to be answered and Day 3 is generally the moving day and this one doesn't seem any different. Day 3 will commence on Saturday at 9.30 am IST (4 am GMT) but you can join us sooner for the build-up as well.

The centurion, Shubman Gill is down for a quick chat. Gill says that it was his father’s dream that he play for the country and he hopes that his father is proud of him. Talks about his shot against James Anderson that went for a maximum, and he says that it felt good playing that shot. Says that it's always good to play on this wicket and accepts that he could have got a big score but missed out.

The final session on Day 2 started with two young Indian batters set on the crease but Sarfaraz Khan was a bit too eager and got out on the very first ball after Tea. Devdutt Padikkal went on to score his maiden 50 in his maiden Test innings and he too got out soon after. Shoaib Bashir bowled a lovely spell and kept on chipping away and eventually, he found some success. Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja tried to stitch together a partnership but weren't able to play freely and eventually, Jurel got out playing a false shot and Jadeja soon followed suit. Tom Hartley got both of those wickets and England seemed to be in control. However, Kuldeep Yadav, high on a fifer and a resilient Jasprit Bumrah didn't give their wickets away and have put on an unbeaten stand of 45 runs and will look to muster up quick runs at the start of Day 3.
