NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) – Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road riders can get discounts on monthly tickets throughout the winter – just in time for Congestion Pricing.

Starting on Jan. 4, monthly LIRR and Metro-North tickets will be honored at all stations regardless of what’s printed on the ticket.

And on the weekends, monthly ticket-holders can bring along up to two guests for just $1 each. The $1 tickets can be purchased on the TrainTime app.

The discounts will last through March, according to the MTA.

“Whether it’s a winter excursion upstate or a trip into the iconic Grand Central, we’ve made your experience even more affordable with steep discounts for family and friends,” said Metro-North President Catherine Rinaldi.

The discounts will kick in a day before Congestion Pricing rolls out on Jan. 5, charging drivers to enter Manhattan under 60th Street.

"Skip winter traffic and enjoy the trip at great prices," said Long Island Rail Road President Rob Free.
