The middle school on Broad Avenue was closed but Anna C Scott Elementary and Leonia High School remained open and recess moved inside, according to Leonia Middle School officials.

Leonia High School students were advised to not take Christie Heights Road to get to school.

A slew of schools across New York and New Jersey closed and delayed arrival Thursday due to the heavy rain that hit the region Wednesday night, causing road closures, wind damage and downed trees and power lines.

The damage from the storm remains, and New Jersey could see rainfall and thunderstorms Thursday evening still, according to the National Weather Service. Rain was expected to clear by Friday night.
