Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has given its employees a last chance to return to the office, extending the deadline to end of March. Failure to comply with this ultimatum will result in consequences, the company's chief operating officer, NG Subramaniam, has warned. ET reported that the executive has outlined many key reasons for this final deadline and employees will have to comply with the mandate to avoid any sort of strict action by TCS.

Subramaniam highlighted two primary concerns: work culture and security. He expressed that remote work heightened the risk of cyberattacks for both employees and employers. Stressing the importance of returning to the office, he emphasised the need to uphold TCS' original culture, which had been compromised due to the lack of face-to-face interaction during the pandemic.

Additionally, Subramaniam noted that remote work hindered the organisation's ability to have a solid culture and talent pool. He also highlighted about the important role of face-to-face interactions in leadership decisions and company growth.

"We are not in a business where employees use TCS as a launch pad. Remote working cannot help an organisation build a great culture," he said. "We are exercising patience but have taken a principled stand that employees have to get back to offices. We have sent employees the final communication on this and if they do not, there will be consequences to face," he added.

Echoing Subramaniam's sentiments, TCS' HR head Milind Lakkad reiterated the company's goal to return to normal operations by the fiscal year's end as employees transition back to office spaces.

In October 2023, TCS first decided that all employees must come to the office for work five days a week and the announcement for the same was made at that time. The shift in policy was reportedly prompted by the discovery of concerning instances of 'moonlighting,' where employees were found to be simultaneously working for two different companies. This might have also led to a negative perception of the work-from-home policy.
