NEW DELHI: Ace Indian shuttler
Lakshya Sen
climbed five places to secure the 13th spot in the latest
BWF rankings
on Tuesday, following his impressive performance at the
All England Championships
.
The 22-year-old from Almora made it to the semi-finals in Birmingham, propelling him from the 15th position to the 12th spot in the Olympic Games Qualification rankings.
With the top 16 players set to qualify for the Olympics by the end of April, Sen is on track to secure his spot. Currently,
HS Prannoy
holds the 9th position in the Paris race, and Sen is also poised to make the cut.
Sen had achieved a career-best ranking of world number six in November 2022 but saw a decline to world No. 25 in April last year. However, he made a remarkable recovery, reaching the 11th spot by August, only to drop to 20th earlier this year after a series of early exits.
His path to Olympic qualification seemed uncertain after several first-round exits this season, including in Malaysia and India. However, consecutive semi-final appearances in the French Open and All England Championships have revitalized his prospects.
In addition, HS Prannoy, the World Championships and Asian Games bronze medalist, currently holds the ninth position, followed by
Kidambi Srikanth
at 27th and Priyanshu Rajawat at 32nd.
In the women's singles category, two-time Olympic medallist
PV Sindhu
is ranked 11th.
In men's doubles, the Indian pair of
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy
and
Chirag Shetty
tops the rankings, while Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto occupy the 20th position. Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have slipped to the 26th place.
