clinched the bronze medal in
men's trap
at the
Asian Olympic Qualifiers
for shotgun in Kuwait City. However, despite his strong performance, Sheoran narrowly missed securing one of the two available quota places for the
Paris 2024 Olympics
.
Sheoran, who led the 50-shot final for most of the competition, finished in third place.
The gold medal was won by 15-year-old Iranian shooter
Mohammad Beyranvand
, who also secured the first quota place.
Chinese athlete
Guo Yuhao
took the silver medal and earned the second quota place, narrowly edging out his opponent in a shoot-off after both had tied at 40 hits. Despite missing the quota, Sheoran's bronze medal adds to his achievements in the sport.
Earlier in the day, Sheoran delivered an impressive performance earlier in the day. He shot two rounds of 24 each, totaling 119 after five 25-shot qualification rounds, securing the fourth spot in the 57-strong field.
However, despite his strong qualification, Sheoran fell short in the finals, finishing in the fourth spot with a score of 33 hits.
The top six shooters advanced to the finals, and he needed to finish among the top two to secure an
Olympic quota
place. Unfortunately, he missed the opportunity by one target.
Shreyasi Singh finishes fifth in women’s trap final
In the women's trap event, India's Shreyasi Singh reached the finals but finished fifth with a score of 19. She had qualified in the fourth spot with a score of 115.
Other Indian trap shooters on the day, Zoravar Sandhu and Manisha Keer, could not progress beyond qualification in their respective events.
Yogesh fires in Jakarta
In the Asian Olympic Qualifiers for rifle/pistol in Jakarta, Yogesh Singh concluded India's engagement in the competition with a fourth gold in two days, winning the 25m centre fire pistol men with a score of 573.
This was India's 15th gold and 33rd medal of the competition, enabling them to finish on top of the leader board.
Compatriots Pankaj Yadav (567), Akshay Jain (564) and Rakesh Kadam (560) were fourth, sixth and eighth respectively. However, Yogesh, Pankaj and Akshay combined to clinch the team gold in the event as well.
