PATNA: The main accused of
Lakhisarai triple murder case
, Ashish Choudhary alias Chhotu, surrendered before the court of chief judicial magistrate at
Lakhisarai
on Tuesday. He had been evading arrest since November 20, the day he did indiscriminate firing on altogether six members of a family, whom he claimed to be his in-laws, when they were returning from the Chhath ghat after offering the morning 'arghya' to Sun God.
Choudhary's two brothers-in-law - Chandan Kumar (42) and Rajnandan Kumar (40) - had died on the spot while the assailant's alleged wife Durga Jha succumbed to the bullet injuries at a Patna hospital two days after the incident.
Choudhary had an intercaste marriage after five years of love affair. Two years after they married at a Patna temple, the woman separated under pressure from her family members, who were outraged over her intercaste wedding.
Durga later took up a job in Patna and Chaudhary suspected that she was having an affair with another man.
Police said the two other accused who had provided Chaudhary with arms and ammunition had been arrested on the day of the crime.
