Labor Day weekend in NY, NJ: LIRR, subway schedule changes

NEW YORK (PIX11) – Whether you’re sticking around or getting out of town, adjusted transit schedules could affect your Labor Day weekend plans. 

The LIRR, Metro-North and subways will have adjusted schedules throughout the weekend, including added options to get out of town. 

Free buses will start charging again soon in NYC

Around 6.7 million travelers are expected to travel by air and over Port Authority crossings over the holiday weekend, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. For people with flights, the JFK AirTrain will offer reduced fares for single rides to $4.25 through the holiday weekend. 

If you’re traveling on the subway, LIRR or MetroNorth this holiday weekend, here’s what you need to know: 

LIRR

  • Saturday & Sunday: Normal weekend schedule on all lines
  • Monday: LIRR will run on a weekend/holiday schedule. Montauk Branch trains will run on a Sunday schedule with added service from the Hamptons to Montauk. 
  • Tuesday: The summer Monday train from Montauk to Hunterspoint Ave at 7:18 a.m. will run

Subways

Saturday and Sunday will have a normal weekend schedule, followed by a Sunday schedule on Monday, which means no B, W Z, 6, 7 or express F trains. 

11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • 2 trains will not run between 3 Av-149 St and 96 St. 3 trains are suspended. 
  • 5 train service will operate in two sections: between Eastchester Dyre Av and E 180th Street, and between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green

9:45 p.m.  Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday:

  • A trains make all local stops on 8th Avenue between 59th Street and West 4th Street 
  • A and C trains operate via the F line

Monday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.:

  • 2 and 3 trains skip Eastern Parkway-Brooklyn Museum

Metro-North

Extra trains will run on the Hudson, Harlem, New Haven, Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines, and some trains will be extended. Others will not run due to low ridership. For a full list of Metro-North service changes, visit the MTA’s website
