MADIKERI: KSRTC, which introduced a digital payment option to buy bus tickets in major cities including Bengaluru and Mysuru, has now extended it to buses operating in Kodagu district.
Until now, when travelling in KSRTC buses, passengers provided cash to purchase tickets. There were problems related to tendering change. All these problems have come to an end in Kodagu now, with Kodagu passengers allowed to pay digitally and get tickets by scanning the QR code present with the conductor.
By providing UPI digital systems to a total of 228 operators (drivers and operators) in the 1st unit of the Puthur division district, several disputes that used to arise between passengers and operators have been solved. From now on, passengers travelling in buses can make digital payments.
KSRTC Madikeri Unit Manager M A Mehboob Ali said that the operator has been given a QR code and passengers have to ask for the ticket price and transfer the money to buy tickets. A message will be sent to the operator's mobile on payment of the fare.
In areas with network problems, tickets are issued by taking cash only. All the operators in the unit have been trained on digital pay. This will be useful for the operators as well as the passengers, he stated.
