NEW DELHI:

Barbora Krejcikova

clinched her second

Grand Slam

title at

Wimbledon

on Saturday with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 victory over

Jasmine Paolini

. Krejcikova, who had previously won the

French Open

in 2021, triumphed despite challenges earlier in the season, including illness and a back injury.
Seeded 31st at the

All England Club

, Krejcikova overcame a 7-9 record preceding the tournament to display resilience and skill in her matches.

Her victory over the seventh-seeded Paolini was the culmination of these efforts.
Jasmine Paolini reached the Wimbledon final after being the French Open runner-up last month. This achievement made her the first woman since

Serena Williams

in 2016 to reach the finals at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season. Despite her efforts, she could not surpass Krejcikova's determined performance.

The final match saw Krejcikova taking the first set 6-2. Paolini responded by winning the second set 6-2. The deciding set was tightly contested, with Krejcikova ultimately winning 6-4.
Krejcikova's triumph makes her the eighth different woman to win Wimbledon in the past eight editions. Notably, the previous year's champion, unseeded Czech player Marketa Vondrousova, was also from the Czech Republic but exited early this year, losing in the first round.
