NEW DELHI:

Virat Kohli

has a plethora of records in his decorated career and the star India batter stands on the verge of adding another milestone to his impressive list of achievements.
If Kohli scores six runs in the third and final T20I against Afghanistan on Wednesday he will become the first

Indian batter

to complete 12000 runs in

T20 format

(T20 internationals + List A games).

Kohli, who currently has 11994 runs in 375 matches, will be the fourth batter overall to get to the landmark.

West Indies legend

Chris Gayle

sits atop the list with 14562 runs in 463 T20 matches followed by

Shoaib Malik

(12993 in 525 games) and

Kieron Pollard

(12430 in 639 matches).
Kohli made a comeback to T20Is after a hiatus of 14 months having last played in the shortest format in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final. He played a 16-ball 29-run cameo in the second T20I against Afghanistan on Sunday.

Clive Lloyd on whether Virat can break Sachin’s record of 100 centuries

In his first T20I since November 2022, Kohli began with a lovely boundary to mark his comeback into the shortest format of the game.

Recreating the famous shot he played against Haris Rauf in the last T20 World Cup at MCG, Kohli hit a short-of-a-length Naveen-ul-Haq delivery back over the bowler's head for a four. On that night in Australia though, it was a six.
