NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bangalore defied all odds and accomplished the impossible by edging out Chennai Super Kings to secure a spot in the
IPL 2024
playoffs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Despite the looming threat of rain and a passing shower, RCB needed to win by at least 18 runs but exceeded expectations by winning by 27 runs.
This victory, part of a remarkable string of six consecutive wins, secured them the fourth and final playoff berth.
The stadium and the entire RCB team burst into ecstatic celebration as Yash Dayal delivered back-to-back dot balls to
Ravindra Jadeja
in the final over. The atmosphere was charged with intense emotions and unbridled joy.
Star RCB batter
Virat Kohli
and his wife
Anushka Sharma
were overwhelmed with emotion following the team's triumph. The couple couldn't hold back their tears of happiness as they celebrated the win.
RCB are in fourth place with seven wins and seven losses, with 14 points. CSK are in the fifth spot with seven wins and seven losses, but they have slid down to fifth due to a lower net-run rate.
RCB first posted a solid 218 for five after being invited to bat and then restricted CSK to 191 for 7 to make it to the play-offs for the ninth time.
Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad have already qualified for the play-offs.
