KL Rahul has been ruled out of the third Test match between India and England in Rajkot starting Thursday after failing to recover from injury, according to a report by Indian Express. Rahul was added to the India squad for the remaining three Tests in the five-match series but it came along with the caveat that his availability will be subject to his recovery. The report claimed that while Ravindra Jadeja was able to recover in time from his hamstring injury, Rahul is not completely fit yet and he is still at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. While the team management is hopeful that Rahul will be available for the fourth Test, no official development was mentioned in the report.
Rahul had complained of right quadriceps pain during the first Test match in Hyderabad and as a result, he was ruled out of the second Test which India won comprehensively in Visakhapatnam.
According to the report, Rahul will be replaced by another Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal. Both cricketers represent Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Padikkal has enjoyed a brilliant run of form in Ranji Trophy and he also impressed for India A against England Lions.
Meanwhile, another media report claimed that Dhruv Jurel can make his debut as wicket-keeper as a replacement for KS Bharat in the third Test match. Bharat's performance in the first two Tests were not satisfactory and the report stated that the team management can look for a new option.
