MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – The Kimlau Plaza in Chinatown is set to get a $55 million redesign, according to Mayor Eric Adams.
Adams made the announcement on Wednesday during his State of The City address, saying the transformation is part of an initiative to make the city better.
“Finally, in partnership with New York State, the administration will invest a total of $55 million to transform Kimlau Plaza in Chinatown, redesigning a chaotic intersection and finally giving one of New York City’s most historic districts the entrance it deserves,” Mayor Adams said.
Kimalau Plaza located at a six-way intersection, was named after Lt. Benjamin Kimlau, a Chinese-American pilot who died in World War II, according to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
An 18-foot tall memorial stands in the plaza honoring Lt. Kimlau and other Chinese-American soldiers.
