KOTTAYAM: Kerala's Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church has lauded the

Narendra Modi-led NDA govt

for taking its first decision after swearing-in related to

farmers' grants

, saying it showed the importance the new dispensation gave to a section that made up the majority.
Church head Baselios Marthoma Mathews III expressed his wish that the new govt would lead India to greater heights, along with a "firm belief" that it would preserve its

secularism

and integrity.
The endorsement comes against the backdrop of

BJP's outreach

to Christians in Kerala, where it opened its account in the LS polls after years by bagging one seat.
A real ruler is a person who treats all sections of people equally and ensures their welfare, the Church's press note said, stressing that secularism is India's hallmark. The Church also expressed hope that the Centre would try to ensure that the "black days in Manipur" are not repeated in the country.
