Darshan Thoogudeepa
was detained by
Bangalore police
in connection with a
murder case
. The arrest of Darshan, along with 11 others, comes after they have been accused of the alleged murder of
Renuka Swamy
, a 33-year-old fan from
Chitradurga
. Swamy had reportedly posted derogatory comments about actress
Pavithra Gowda
.
Darshan and his associates have been placed in police custody for six days as the investigation continues.
Renuka Swamy’s body was discovered early Sunday in a drain in Bengaluru’s Kamakshipalya area. The investigation revealed that Swamy, who worked as a pharmacy store employee, was tortured before being killed.
According to police sources, Swamy's comments on social media against Pavithra Gowda, aged 37, enraged Darshan, who is reportedly her boyfriend. The 47-year-old star is accused of orchestrating Swamy’s kidnapping and being present during the brutal assault that led to his death.
The police's preliminary findings suggest that on Saturday, Swamy was allegedly abducted by Raghavendra and a few others from Chitradurga and brought to Bengaluru. Upon arrival, they confined him in a shed belonging to one of the accomplices. Throughout the day, Swamy endured multiple rounds of severe beatings.
By Sunday, the group attempted to dispose of Swamy's body by dumping it in a drain. However, in a hurry, they left the body by the roadside, where it was eventually discovered by a security guard from a nearby building. The guard promptly alerted the authorities.
