BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – A verdict could come as soon as Monday in the trial over Jam Master Jay's fatal shooting.
Jurors are entering the second day of deliberations to determine who shot and killed the legendary DJ for Run-DMC in his Queens recording studio in 2002. The jury, for weeks, has heard testimony from 35 witnesses.
Prosecutors claimed Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald "Tinard" Washington killed Jam Master Jay, whose real name is Jason Mizell, in a cocaine deal gone bad.
Both defendants' defense teams, however, blame a third person – Jay Bryant – saying DNA evidence puts him at the scene. Bryant is being tried separately.
The jury has asked for testimony readback from seven different witnesses since closing arguments wrapped up and deliberations began on Thursday. The prosecution said in its closing arguments that "Father Time" ultimately solved the case – witnesses who were initially too scared to testify can finally now feel safe to place the blame on Jordan and Washington.
The defense argued that time is the problem with the case – that too much time has passed and witness recollections can't be trusted this many years later.
Both Jordan and Washington face murder and drug trafficking-related charges. If convicted, both men face a maximum life sentence in prison.
Bryant's trial is scheduled for 2026.
