GUWAHATI: Two 30-year-old men were trampled to death by

wild elephants

at Tamulpur, close to the India-Bhutan border in lower Assam, on Friday evening, taking the death toll in jumbo attacks to at least 12 in the state since November, reports Kangkan Kalita . Between May and October, three persons were killed by wild elephants in the same area.
Ajoy Minse and Rajesh Tirky, residents of Deosunga village - about 22km from Tamulpur in Baksa district which shares a border with Bhutan - were crushed to death by a small herd of about six elephants, forest department officials said on Saturday.

Kaushik Barua, CEO of

Assam Elephant Foundation

, said, "Food is not always the factor, but shrinking habitat is, for this growing human-elephant conflict in Assam. Co-existence with elephants is not easy for villagers."
