was expected to cross Rs 11,500 crore, now
Ormax study
has stated that with gross box office of Rs 12,226 crore, 2023 became the first-ever year to cross Rs 12,000 crore mark at the India box office, surpassing 2019 ( Rs 10,948 cr).
In 2023, Hindi cinema collected a gross box office of Rs 5,380 crore, crossing Rs 5,000 crore mark for the first time.
As per the report, "Hindi cinema’s box office share (44%) reached the pre-pandemic level of 44%, up from 33% in 2022. While more than 1,000 films released in the year 2023, just the top 10 films contributed 40% of the year’s total box office.
Jawan
was the highest-grossing film of 2023 with Rs 734 crore."
