NEW DELHI: As the captain of Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season,
Hardik Pandya
expressed his profound gratitude and humility towards the city of Mumbai.
He acknowledged the immense love and support he has received from the city, stating, "I am truly grateful. Ita pyaar milna (getting so much love) is a blessing in itself. Words don't come into my mouth sometimes.
I am very happy and overwhelmed."
Pandya's journey with Mumbai has been a transformative one. He reminisced about how the city has played a pivotal role in his personal growth and development, saying, "Mumbai has taught me to grow, never give up, and remain humble. As a boy from Baroda, Gujarat, I came to Mumbai without any knowledge of life, and this city has given me so much love and invaluable learnings."
Despite Pandya's heartfelt sentiments towards Mumbai, the
IPL 2024
season so far has been a challenging one for the MI team.
After a poor start, they have managed to bounce back, winning two out of their last three matches. Currently, they stand ninth in the points table with four points from six matches. However, they have an opportunity to improve their standing as they face the Punjab Kings at Mullanpur on Thursday evening.
Interestingly, Pandya's return to the Mumbai Indians as the captain has not been well-received by many fans. His shocking move from the Gujarat Titans to the Mumbai Indians did not impress a significant portion of the fan base, and the situation escalated when he was appointed as the skipper, replacing Rohit Sharma, five-time IPL-winning captain with MI.

The MI management's decision to appoint Pandya as the captain has put him under intense scrutiny, and he has faced backlash from fans both on social media and at the stadiums.
