NEW DELHI: Delhi Capitals' star wicketkeeper-batter,
Rishabh Pant
, is gearing up for his much-anticipated return to cricket, 14 months after surviving a life-threatening car accident. The
Board of Control for Cricket in India
(
BCCI
) cleared Pant to participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), marking a significant milestone in his remarkable journey of recovery.
"I am excited and nervous at the same time.
It feels like I am going to make my debut again," said Pant in a statement released by Delhi Capitals.
The accident, which occurred in December 2022 while Pant was driving to his home in Roorkee, resulted in multiple injuries, including a ligament reconstruction surgery on his right knee, a fractured wrist, and ankle.
"To be able to play cricket again after everything I've been through is nothing short of a miracle. I'm grateful to all my well-wishers and fans, and most importantly, the BCCI and staff at NCA. All their love and support continues to give me immense strength," said Pant, expressing his gratitude.
Despite the challenging rehabilitation process, Pant remained resolute in his determination to return to the cricket field. He acknowledged the overwhelming support he received during his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy.
"I can't wait to re-unite with my DC family and play in front of the fans again," added Pant, eagerly awaiting his return to action in the IPL.
Pant's return to the IPL holds particular significance as he will resume his dual role as a wicketkeeper and a dynamic batter. The BCCI has deemed him fit to perform both responsibilities, underlining his readiness to take the field once again.
Having participated in 33 Tests, 30 ODIs, and 66 T20 Internationals for India, Pant's return is eagerly awaited by fans and cricket enthusiasts worldwide. His presence at the IPL auction last year and his stellar performances in international cricket attest to his stature as one of the game's most exciting talents.
As Pant prepares to don the Delhi Capitals jersey once again, his comeback serves as a testament to his resilience, determination, and unwavering passion for the sport.
