NEW YORK (PIX11) – Facebook, Instagram, and Threads appear to be experiencing widespread service outages in the U.S. Tuesday morning, according to Downdetector.com.
There were over 579,000 reported outages on Facebook as of 10:28 a.m., per Downdetector. More than 91,000 Instagram users also reported outages at the same time. Nearly 1,000 outages were reported on Threads.
Meta owns all three social media platforms. A spokesperson posted on X that the company is aware of the outages and is working on a solution.
"We're aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now," Andy Stone said.
Meta acknowledged it was having major disruptions to its platform on Meta Status, a tool to track outages for Meta business products.
"We are aware of an issue impacting Facebook Login. Our engineering teams are actively looking to resolve the issue as quickly as possible," a message from Meta said.
Outage reports for Facebook first started to spike after 9:30 a.m.
Users were logged out of their accounts and have been unable to log back in. Some users reported seeing a message that their password was invalid, even if it was correct.
About 76% of reported Facebook complaints on Downdetector were related to login issues. Facebook Messenger is also experiencing an outage.
On Instagram, users could still see content but were unable to refresh their timelines. An error page pops up when trying to access the app on your desktop, asking the user to reload.
It remains unclear what caused the outages.
