MUMBAI: The Indian cricket board (
BCCI
) has earmarked March 22 to May-end as the window to conduct IPL-2024. The exact dates of the T20 league will be finalised after taking into account the dates of the General Elections in the country next summer.
IPL Auction: Live updates
The fact that most of the boards have made their players available, despite the tournament being followed immediately by the T20 World Cup from June 4-30 in the Caribbean and the US, is something that reflects the pull of the cash-rich league.
In a communication (TOI has a copy) to the franchises, ahead of the IPL auction on Tuesday, the BCCI informed them that the boards of Australia (subject to players wanting to participate in the Sheffield Shield final from March 21-25), South Africa, Afghanistan, New Zealand, and West Indies have made their players available for the full duration of the tournament.
However, the boards of England, Ireland, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have given conditional approval, as they are involved in some series or the other during this period.
“The ECB are still in the process of finalising their schedule for the World T20 in June and if any individual players require specific management in the build-up to the World T20, Rob Key will liaise directly with the player and his franchise to make the necessary arrangements,” the English Cricket Board has told the BCCI.
In the case of Sri Lanka, most of their white-ball specialists like Maheesh Theekshana, Wanindu Hasaranga, Matheesha Pathirana and Dushmantha Chameera should be available.
Set to host Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe between March and April 2024, Bangladesh have informed the Indian Board that pacers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam, who were initially listed for the
IPL 2024 auction
, will not be available for this edition.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Cricket Ireland have granted special permissions to their fast bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Josh Little, respectively, to play in the league. While the Ireland pacer has been permitted to take part in the league for the full duration, the BCB has informed the BCCI that Rahman can participate in the league from March 22 to May 11.
Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood, who was released by RCB, is set to be available from the first week of May for the high-profile T20 league, as he is expecting to become a father in March next year.
