GT vs CSK IPL 2024 Live Score - The last time Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clashed in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match in Ahmedabad, it was the final of the last season's tournament and the match, postponed by a day because of rain, culminated on the third morning at 1.35 am, with CSK winning their fifth title.

Cut to Friday, CSK lie fourth in the IPL 2024 table, with qualification in their own hands while GT, reeling under the injury-forced absence of marquee pacer Mohammed Shami and traded captain Hardik Pandya, occupy the last place in the ten-team league with their qualification dependent on winning the next three matches and other results going their way.

The clash against CSK for GT is followed by tough encounters against first-placed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and third-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The first task, though, would be to overcome the tough challenge posed by the defending champions.

While CSK are coming off a 28-run triumph over Punjab Kings, the Titans have lost their last three matches, putting their campaign in disarray. The onus will be on GT captain Shubman Gill to reinvigorate his team -both with his batting and leadership.

Gill, who won the Orange Cap last time around, has aggregated 322 runs in 11 matches, striking at a rate of 137.60. His opening partner Wriddhiman Saha has not been his usual self this time around, collecting just 136 runs in 9 matches.

Titans' batting mainstay this season has been Tamil Nadu batter Sai Sudharsan, whose total of 424 runs in 11 matches stands in contrast to the inconsistencies of the rest of the middle-order.

The middle-order comprising David Miller, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia and co. will need to shoulder more responsibility. Sans Shami, the Titans' bowling department has struggled to take wickets in contrast to the CSK, whose bowlers have taken wickets upfront, kept it tight in the middle overs and at the end.

While pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana have left the squad and Deepak Chahar is out with injury, Mumbai's Tushar Deshpande has filled in the boots and, along with the spinners, has kept the opposition batters in check.

Rachin Ravindra's exit has opened up a spot for Ajinkya Rahane, who has not yet found the form of last season.

While captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (541 runs in 11 matches) and other middle order batters have lived upto the expectations barring the odd failure, the spotlight will again be on veteran Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

It was on this ground that Dhoni lifted the IPL trophy for the fifth time.

The Ahmedabad crowd will be looking to get the icon's glimpse. With the first two qualifiers slated to be played in Ahmedabad, the crowd might get another chance to see Dhoni play but every ardent fan would be looking forward to seeing him bat.

GT vs CSK Live Score - Eyes on Simran

CSK, on the other hand, have no much of concerns with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad leading by example. He has been their top run-getter with 541 runs from 11 innings, just one run away from Virat Kohli in the race for the Orange Cap. Daryl Mitchell was also among runs in a 19-ball 30 against PBKS in their last match as they would just hope that Shivam Dube returns to form after capping successive golden ducks. Their biggest plus in the win over PBKS has been the addition of Simarjeet Singh. Making his debut for CSK as an impact player, Simarjeet clocked 140-plus consistently and returned with 2/16 from his three overs.

GT vs CSK Live Score - The standings

A win today will take CSK to third place in the standings, ahead of Sunrisers Hyderbad by virtue of better net run-rate. Among the three teams stuck on 12 points, only CSK (+0.700) enjoys a positive net run-rate. On paper, bottom-placed Titans are still in the mix but with a maximum tally of 14 points, it would be very difficult for the Shubman Gill-led side to get into the top four. The side is low on confidence having managed just one win from their last five matches and has struggled in all departments of the game.

GT vs CSK Live Score - A lot of questions for Titans

Titans bowling has lost firepower in absence of the injured Mohammed Shami, while the captaincy responsibility has weighed down heavily on the talented opener Shubman Gill, who has three single digit scores and a highest of 35 in his last five outings. Sai Sudharsan, Shahrukh Khan and David Miller have also been inconsistent. The bowling unit needs to improve its performance as the likes of Mohit Sharma and Josh Little have been leaking runs in the Powerplay. While defending a paltry 147, their bowlers gave away 92 runs in the Powerplay against RCB, who chased down the target in just 13.4 overs. With no support from the new ball bowlers, the Afghan spin duo of Noor Ahmad and Rashid Khan also seemed less effective.

GT vs CSK Live Score - CSK in a mid-table logjam

Despite being hit by the absence of key bowlers due to injuries as well as international commitments, Chennai Super Kings will still like to display their on-field ruthlessness while taking on wooden spooners Gujarat Titans. Caught in a mid-table logjam with 12 points from 11 games, the away match against Gujarat will be very important for Ruturaj Gaikwad's men as they are still not assured of a play-off berth and a defeat could really dent their chances.

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of Match 59 of the Indian Premier League where Gujarat Titans take on Chennai Super Kings.

GT vs CSK Live Score - Injury woes

With Deepak Chahar and Matheesha Pathirana out of the tournament due to injuries and Mustafizur Rahman back on national duty, CSK's bowling attack sans Ravindra Jadeja and Tushar Deshpande can at best be termed second string. A lot will depend on how the three CSK spinners -- Ravindra Jadeja, Mitchell Santner and Moeen Ali bowl on a two-paced track. Ihe manner in which CSK defended a total of 167 in Dharamsala against Punjab Kings will give their fans hope of upping the ante against Titans, who have already lost seven in the tournament so far.
