Inside conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar's mansion in tatters: Dior cushions, a theatre

A luxurious bungalow in Chennai was a central location in the case of Sukesh Chandrashekhar, a conman who amassed wealth through illegal means and is now incarcerated in Tihar jail in a Rs 200-crore extortion case. Years after his arrest, the grand residence was turned into ruins.

Sukesh first gained notoriety in 2017 for allegedly promising to secure Tamil Nadu’s AIADMK’s two leaves symbol for TTV Dhinakaran for a hefty fee of Rs 200 crore. Since then, his involvement in various cases, including the Delhi liquor policy case, has come to light.

Several investigative agencies probed and raided locations linked to Sukesh, uncovering a palace-like residence near Chennai, adjacent to Marina beach.

It was from this house that Sukesh operated his network, facilitating his rise from a small-time conman involved in illegal activities to someone capable of influencing ministers and high-end businessmen.

The sea-facing bungalow and its grounds were synonymous with luxury. During a 2021 raid, the Enforcement Directorate discovered an array of high-end luxury vehicles parked outside Sukesh’s home, including Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes Benz.

The house was adorned with expensive black marble, mirrors with gold trim, and floors laid with Versace and Italian marbles. Lavish furniture filled the rooms, complemented by chandeliers hanging from the ceilings.

However, with Sukesh in jail, the grand bungalow has fallen into complete disrepair, as witnessed when India Today visited the conman's palace.

Dior cushion covers and luxurious cushions lay strewn across the floor. Doors are broken, and chandeliers have been removed and abandoned in a room.

Sukesh had constructed a soundproof private theatre with a sea view, plush seats, and initials ‘LS’ covered in dust.

The two-story house, featuring striped walls and torn false ceilings, still houses a gold-painted elevator, albeit sealed shut.

Inside, everything has been ransacked, save for a glass maple syrup art piece and a horse-faced artefact --silent witnesses to Sukesh’s ill-gotten wealth amassed through numerous crimes.
