INFINITE's Sungyeol joins cast, Geum Sae Rok and Kim Jung Hyun in talks for new weekend drama

INFINITE's Sungyeol

is set to star in KBS2's upcoming

weekend drama

“Iron Family,” a dark comedy about a family who runs a laundry business across three generations. Sungyeol's casting was confirmed by his agency, Management Leesang, following a report by TenAsia on June 24.
“Iron Family” follows the everyday lives of a family who suddenly come into an unexpected windfall, giving them the chance to chase their dreams and smooth out the wrinkles in their lives.

The series, comprising 36 episodes, will air as the successor to “Beauty and Mr. Romantic.”
Sungyeol will portray Choi Hyung Chul, a lieutenant at the Cheongrim Police Station. Despite graduating from the police academy with honors, Choi is considered the least accomplished in his family, which includes a professor father, an artist mother, a prosecutor brother, and a doctor sister. Nonetheless, Choi takes immense pride in his work as a police officer. His character will also navigate a romantic storyline with a female colleague at the station.
Alongside Sungyeol, the cast is rumored to include

, Choi Tae Joon, and Yang Hye Ji, though their agencies have yet to confirm these reports.

The drama is written by Seo Sook Hyang, known for her successful works like “Pasta,” “Don’t Dare to Dream” (also known as “Jealousy Incarnate”), and “Wok of Love.”

Sungyeol: Best known as a member of the K-pop boy band INFINITE, Sungyeol was born on August 27, 1991. He debuted in acting in 2011 with the drama “While You Were Sleeping” and has since appeared in “Please Remember, Princess” (2013), “Hi! School: Love On” (2014), and “D-Day” (2015). He also lent his voice to the cartoon series “Wara Store” from 2011 to 2012.

Kim Jung Hyun: Born on April 5, 1990, Kim Jung Hyun made his acting debut in the 2013 film “Getting an Orientation.” He has starred in various films and dramas, including “Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People” (2017), “Bing Goo” (2017), and “School 2017” (2017).
Geum Sae Rok: Born on September 6, 1992, Geum Sae Rok entered the entertainment industry in 2015. She has appeared in films and dramas like “Assassination” (2015), “Marry Me Now” (2018), “The Fiery Priest” (2019), and “Mr. Temporary.”
