NEW DELHI: Former India head coach Rahul Dravid expressed his confidence in Gautam Gambhir, who has taken over the role. During a media interaction at the launch event of 'Roombr,' a 'Digital Classroom' provider, Dravid shared his thoughts on his successor.
Gambhir, a former opening batsman for India, commenced his coaching stint by leading the team on their tour of Sri Lanka, which took place in July and August.
"He (Gambhir) has got a lot of experience, as a player also he has played a lot, he obviously coached quite a bit. I am sure he will be great," said Dravid, who coached India to the
T20 World Cup
title in June.
"In any situation everyone brings his own experience and knowledge to the table. I am sure the team will benefit from everything that Gautam brings to them with his team," he added.
Under the guidance of Dravid, the Indian cricket team achieved significant milestones, reaching the final of both the ODI World Cup and the
World Test Championship
.
The Indian team, now led by Gambhir, commenced their Test season on Thursday. Over the course of the next four months, the team is scheduled to participate in a total of 10 Test matches.
This includes two matches against Bangladesh, followed by a series of three matches against New Zealand. Subsequently, the team will embark on a journey to Australia, where they will engage in a five-match Test series.
