Kamal Haasan
joined hands with director
Shankar
for 'Indian', and the patriotic film was released in theaters in 1996. The
blockbuster drama
has now been re-released in theaters, as the film's
sequel
is slated to release in July. 'Indian' received a better opening on the opening day of its re-release, and the film gets a solid start on day 1. According to Filmibeat, 'Indian' has reportedly grossed Rs 1 crore on the opening day of its re-release.
But the much-awaited re-release failed to recreate
box office
records. 'Ghilli' still holds the record for a re-released film on its opening day, as it earned almost Rs 10 crore.
However, 'Indian' is set to have solid
occupancy
for the weekend, and the film's reservations for Saturday and Sunday look good. The re-release of 'Indian' has allowed fans to revisit the 1996 blockbuster before the sequel, which is slated for a pan-Indian release on July 12.
Directed by Shankar, 'Indian' features Kamal Haasan in a dual role with
Manisha Koirala
, Urmila Matondkar, Sukanya, Manorama, Goundamani, and Senthil, among others. Retaining Kamal Haasan's Senapathy character from the prequel, Shankar has rebuilt a new team for the sequel, and social media is set to raise voices against corruption. AR Rahman scored the music for the 1996 film, while 'Indian 2' has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The promotions for the sequel are on, and the makers are getting ready with some interesting updates for fans.
